I have also heard that crying releases endorphins. Other studies have shown that tears shed during times of high emotion (versus crying because you got dust in your eyes) have a much higher hormone content; researchers concluded that means a good cry can get the stress out of your head- literally- and make you feel better.
Some have said that laughter is the best medicine, but in my opinion the winning formula is a combination of fervent prayer, laughing often, crying when appropriate, and Tylenol as needed.
And during the rare moments when something makes you laugh so hard you cry- take a picture!
